This rollicking, fun-filled romp sees newly-married Captain Lightning and Amelia moving to a small farm on the cliff tops at beautiful Waratah Bay, overlooking spectacular Wilson's Promontory — the southern-most tip of the Australian mainland — and the cave riddled coves and beaches of picturesque Walkerville... the perfect place for a new adventure!

Reporter and photographer for the local newspaper (The Tarwin Star — Shines in Dark Places!), Tom Canon, spies a monster one dark night on his way home from a footy club pie night and vows on the front page to hunt it down and photograph it. (This mirrors a real-life story from the 1950s when local newspaper owner and friend, the late Tom Gannon, reported in The Powlett Express that a monster had been seen near Wonthaggi in South Gippsland. It made headlines every year after that, usually just before the peak tourist season!)

Mr and Mrs Peppercorn arrive to spend their summer holidays with the newly-wed couple, which displeases the gang of cutthroat smugglers hiding in the caves at the foot of the cliffs... so they decide the time has come for some ruthless action to frighten off the intruders.

What follows is three acts of hilarious action, comedy and adventure, with some unexpected twists and turns in the plot. If you loved The Hobyahs, you're going to love Captain Lightning and the Smugglers!
