This was our premier
event for 2004 in conjunction with Wonthaggi Primary School (Bilson Street)
– our first co-production since 1986.
There were several changes this time around. Our artistic director, Lynne Counsel,
is no longer a teacher at the school since moving to Melbourne in 1987. Director
for this production was John Counsel.
Marg Counsel, John's sister, worked with the Writers' Group to create the script
and music, with the assistance of John and teachers Paul Andrews and Ruth Chambers.
The Writers' Camp was held at the Uniting Church Camp at Inverloch for three days
and two nights from Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22 April 2004. Twelve students from grades
5 and 6 were chosen from the many applicants. The Writers' Group members are listed
at right, below the photo of the script cover.
The
Story
During a game at school, four students chase their runaway ball into the computer
room, where the door locks shut behind them, trapping them inside.
They discover a strange computer that releases a dangerous virus, created by Roger
O'Brian, the computer teacher, who turns out to be an evil genius out to rule the
world!
Through a series of adventures using a mysterious portal in the giant computer
screen, they follow
the virus to different places, real and imaginary. They finally thwart the virus
and, with it, the evil Dr O'Brain.
